How Smartr365’s Smart Currency Exchange integration helped one customer to potentially save thousands

We’ve got some great news to share: the new Smart Currency Exchange (SCE) referral function introduced earlier this summer within Smartr365 is proving to be a great success!

One recent case shows how the integration is helping advisers connect clients with specialist currency support.

Adviser Barry Christoforou, of Avelex Mortgages, recently shared feedback about his experience using the new automated Smart Currency Exchange (SCE) pop-up, to support a customer selling a Spanish property to fund a purchase in the UK.

In a post-Brexit world, transferring money from a Spanish bank to a UK account is more complex – and expensive, with stricter data checks and rules.

Plus, with an often-significant period between an offer being accepted and exchange, there was a danger that the proceeds from the Spanish property sale (in this case €350,000) could decrease in value when exchanged for Sterling.

Fortunately, by using Smartr365’s Smart Currency Exchange integration and securing an agreed exchange rate in advance, Barry’s customer had peace of mind about exactly how much his sale proceeds would translate into, regardless of what happens to currency markets over that waiting period.

Smartr365’s same-day Click-to-Refer functionality

Following a short explanation from Barry about their services, the customer agreed to a referral to SCE and Barry took advantage of the Click-to-Refer functionality to instantly introduce the client to SCE, with a member of the SCE team contacting the customer on the very same day (17 July).

Following an initial qualification call, the SCE team completed the Know Your Customer (KYC) checks and opened their trading account.

This simple step-by-step process made sure that the property sale could be completed without delay.

Appointing a dedicated Personnel Currency Account Manager

Once the checks were completed, the client was then assigned a dedicated Personnel Currency Account Manager, with the initial consultation taking place on 23 July.

During the conversation, the client and account manager discussed any concerns about transferring a large sum of money internationally. Expert guidance on managing potential currency fluctuations was also discussed.

Ongoing communication

July 2026 saw notable fluctuations in exchange rates, with £1 reaching a high of €1.18. This left the client with a decision to make: either secure a rate in advance or take their chances by waiting until the Spanish property sale was ready to complete.

Rather than rushing a decision, Smart Currency Exchange provided ongoing support and regular contact to help the client better understand their options,

Over the following weeks, the customer and their account manager, had additional follow-up conversations where they discussed current market movements and what’s driving them.

A successful trial run — and then the clincher

There’s no hiding from the fact that €350,000 is a lot of money for any client to transfer. So, to reassure the client about the process, a successful trial run was completed on 2 September.

This helped to ease the customer’s anxiety, while giving them experience of the transfer process and the confidence in Smart Currency Exchange before committing to secure a rate on the full amount.

The following week, on 9 September, market conditions had shifted. The GBP/EUR exchange was less favourable than it was ten days earlier, reducing the GBP value of the client’s €350,000.

Discussing their options with their account manager, the client felt informed and ready to act. Together they agreed to fix the exchange for the full transaction value.

The outcome

The result was a successful international currency transfer supported by expert guidance throughout the customer journey.

However, what was, arguably, more important was that the client reported that their experience with Smart Currency Exchange was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting that the personalised support provided at each stage of the process was particularly impressive.

The value of Smart Currency Exchange for advisers

It’s clear that advisers who help their clients transfer funds using Smart Currency Exchange are promoting a simple and easy way to transfer money internationally and mitigate the exchange rate risk – with the added bonus of earning Barry a healthy £706 referral commission!

The case study shows that Smart Currency Exchange integration into Smartr365 is successfully working as intended, helping advisers head off customer risk at the pass, help clients navigate complex transactions and create additional revenue opportunities — all without creating any additional administrative burden.

Trustworthy expertise and support are just a click away!

Advisers who work with clients to buy, sell or refinance overseas properties benefit tremendously from the instant referral to Smart Currency Exchange within Smartr365.

This one success story alone is a clear example of how technology, specialist support and adviser relationships can combine to deliver positive outcomes for everyone involved.
